First you make a bud.

Then you add some petals.

It takes time but you keep going, making bigger petals and carefully setting them in place.

The birthday sponge – made with duck eggs and natural vanilla extract.

You don’t want the cake to slip off that lovely cake board.

A thin layer of jam.

Pop some buttercream on the underside of the next layer….and repeat.

Neaten off your layers! Do you see the family heirloom cake turntable? It must be 100 years old!

Add a thin layer of crumb coating

And chill the cake thoroughly.

Start the icing!

Add the next layer – repeat with the lightest colour.
